In 2010 we also took a one week trip to the cool mountains of northern New Mexico. The purpose of the trip was to get away from the Texas heat and relax. In the way of relaxing, we tried not to spend too much time on the road and we actually spent 2 nights in the same spot in a pleasant RV park in Chama, New Mexico.

The highlight of the trip was a day spent riding on the Cumbres & Toltec steam train on a picture perfect day. We were bused from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO and boarded the train there. The train trip was a pleasant 12 MPH jaunt through the mountains of northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado, with a stop for lunch in Osier, CO. The route crossed the border between the 2 states 12 times. There was a bit of excitement when an overly exhuberent woman fell off the train. We had to back up about a half mile to retrieve her. She claimed to be uninjured, but the train stopped near a road crossing so she could be transported to a medical clinic.
